In 1870 Rome becomes the Capital of the Kingdom of Italy and in 1875 Maurizio Bettoja, a wine merchant from Piemonte brings the Massimo d'Azeglio restaurant, originally a winery, that opened in Saint Mary Major's Square for the Jubilee of 1575.
The group has grown through five generations of Bettojas to establish itself as the largest private hotel group in Italy: four hotels in Rome and one in Florence comprising a total of 1000 rooms.
President of the company is Angelo Bettoja, a capable director, good host, great traveller and gourmet.
